1 – Mental Health Accredited Panel Solicitor:

Experienced Mental Health Law Panel Accredited Solicitor – Full Time Fixed Term

Location: Manchester – M16

Salary: Highly Competitive, based on experience

PQE: Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Mental Health Law.

Start Date: April 2026

We are a small friendly law firm based in Manchester undertaking predominantly legal aid work in Mental Health, Criminal, Prison and Immigration Law.

We are looking for panel accredited Mental Health Law Solicitor to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 -18 months with the potential for a permanent position following this.

You will assist with the management of the firm’s Mental Health Law department and be responsible for managing a full caseload of predominantly Mental Health Tribunal matters. You will be representing clients at Tribunal hearings as well as attending Hospital Managers’ Hearings and CPA meetings. You will also be expected to maintain high standards of file management, client care and take an active role in the billing of files.

Membership of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme is essential.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience managing a full caseload of mental health matters from start to conclusion, including representing clients at both civil and forensic Tribunal hearings
  • Have exceptional file and time management skills
  • Have comprehensive administrative skills with experience of using case management systems preferred
  • Demonstrate high levels of client care
  • Be able to work independently but also as part of a close-knit team

We are looking to recruit a LPC/LLM graduate that wants to work within the Criminal Law/Mental Health Law/Immigration Law/Prison Law.  We only want serious applicants that wish to pursue a career undertaking Legal Aid work.

You need to show enthusiasm and be a team player.

This role is not for someone who wants to be ‘spoon fed’, you need to be someone who is willing to work and have skills to work independently and be a quick learner.

Training will be provided, and it is a real opportunity for someone who wants to work in a LEGAL 500 but small Legal Aid practice in Manchester.
